Inspired by top luxury brands, Polène was founded in 2016 by Mathieu, Antoine, and Elsa Mothay, three siblings whose great-grandfather Léon Legallais launched the famed French brand Saint James (known for the iconic striped marinière shirts favored by Picasso, Andy Warhol, Kurt Cobain, and Audrey Hepburn).
The siblings mission was to offer women more accessible everyday bags. Not a new concept, but when we were introduced to Polène their collection of handbags seemed to lack creativity and originality. Lately the brand has been receiving a lot of press and attention from popular influencers on Instagram and the very popular TikTok. Polène’s bags are hand-made in Ubrique, Spain. Polène bags provide a necessary luxury alternative because they are providing the same quality leather and craftsmanship as those established luxury brands.
The Polène shopper is usually a minimalist with a sense of singularity, regardless of her age, according to cofounder Antoine Mothay. Numero Nano, remains a top seller for the luxury brands – it retails for about $420. If you know me I love a crossbody top handle combo.
The Numero Sept is at the top of my wish list this year. Polène offers handmade quality leather handbags that are not over priced, and you don’t have to buy items you don’t want to get on a waitlist.
